Invest in a Bright Future for Young People
The Challenge
Young people and their communities are navigating an increasingly complex economy where traditional pathways are less certain.
- 108,185 young people in NYC are out of school and out of work.
- 61% of jobs held by young people are part-time.
- 31% of NYC college students work while in school, with fewer completing degrees each year.
- 72% of job openings will require some postsecondary education or training by 2031.
Our Solutions
We create and advance solutions that break down barriers and transform the systems supporting young people and their communities in the pursuit of economic opportunities.
- Community: Co-create localized solutions that respond to the unique needs of NYC’s neighborhoods.
- Education: Build equitable pathways to postsecondary education and career opportunities.
- Work: Advance practices that achieve better outcomes for employers and workers.
- Policy: Shape innovative policies that improve access to economic opportunities.
Our Investors
The JobsFirst NYC endowment has been made possible thanks to a generous gift from a longtime supporter. This investment is a rarity in the world of intermediary nonprofits and is a testament to our successful track record.
FAQ
An endowment is a lasting commitment to systemic improvement, and it is more than a gift. Your investment ensures that JobsFirst NYC can:
- Sustain and expand our most effective initiatives.
- Innovate boldly without the limitations of short-term funding cycles.
- Respond rapidly to emerging challenges.
- Build long-term stability for programs that change lives.
The endowment represents an investment in the future of work, education, and economic opportunity for young people and their communities.
Our endowment is a restricted endowment fund whereby the gift amount (known as the principal) is invested, and earnings from the investment are spent as directed by the endowment agreement. The gift amount is held in perpetuity – in other words, forever. Every contribution to the endowment fund increases the principal, providing even more investment income in the future. Under our endowment agreement, JobsFirst NYC may spend the earnings in whatever way best supports our work, allowing us to continue creating innovative solutions to the economic and educational challenges facing young adults and their communities.
Unless otherwise restricted by the gift instrument, JobsFirst NYC may expend so much of an endowment fund as it deems prudent after considering the factors set forth in the provisions governing expenditure under the New York Prudent Management of Institutional Funds Act (NYPMIFA).
A restricted endowment:
- Increases the organization’s long-term financial stability and provides financial independence.
- Creates a steady source of income year after year. It can grow over time through additional gifts from donors, whether foundations or individuals.
- Relieves pressure on the annual fund; earnings from an endowment can help cover annual operating costs.
- Enables the organization to undertake ambitious programmatic expansion and organizational improvement.
Yes. Individuals, corporations, foundations, and other entities can contribute to an endowment fund.
