Development Manager

The Development Manager will identify, research, and manage a pipeline of current and prospective corporate and foundation donors to raise support and advance JobsFirstNYC’s mission. The Development Manager will work closely with the President and CEO and Director of Operations as well as staff across the organization. This individual must be committed to serving the interests of out of school/out of work young adults ages 16-24.

The Development Manager will assist in managing the grant proposal process from start to finish, including researching and identifying funding opportunities, gathering input from the executive team and staff, writing and submitting grant proposals, and submitting timely reports. A minimum of three years experience in nonprofit grant writing is required. This position is mostly remote; some in person meetings may be required.


  • Prospecting/Strategizing – Initiate ongoing collaboration with organizational leadership and staff to understand and evaluate funding needs, gaps, and opportunities. Identify, research, and help cultivate new funding opportunities, and strategic partnerships related to the mission of JobsFirstNYC.
  • Grant Writing
  • Assist in the process of developing and submitting well-researched, tailored, and persuasive grant proposals, letters of inquiry (LOIs), interim and final reports to existing and prospective foundation and corporate supporters.
  • Prioritize multiple grant opportunities to ensure multiple proposals proceed in a timely manner.
  • Liaise with teams across the organization to gather all necessary data, program information, and supporting collateral
  • Collaborate with President and CEO and Director of Operations to develop materials that support organization’s overall fundraising efforts, such as compelling impact stories and reports, ‘one-pagers’, and major donor proposals.

The Development Manager should meet the following qualifications:

  • 3+ years of professional or volunteer grant writing experience with a proven track record.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.
  • Excellent writing skills, including grammar-checking and proofreading abilities.
  • Persuasive, clear, and compelling writing style with attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Very strong interpersonal skills to work with JobsFirstNY staff and with current and prospective funders.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce complex, compelling written pieces for diverse audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of proposal submission, fundraising process, and sources of funding for non-profit organizations
  • Experience in prospect research.
