Collaboration between JobsFirstNYC and PeopleShores Sparking Job Creation in NYC’s Neighborhoods with High Unemployment
In the bustling streets of New York City, where opportunity often seems abundant, there are pockets of communities grappling with high rates of youth unemployment. Recognizing the urgent need to address this disparity, JobsFirstNYC and PeopleShores joined forces in 2022 to pioneer a groundbreaking initiative aimed at creating jobs in neighborhoods with high unemployment rates.
Empowering Communities through Local Impact Sourcing
At the heart of our partnership lies a shared commitment to local impact sourcing – the idea that economic opportunities should exist and thrive within the communities we serve through local job creation. With this vision in mind, JobsFirstNYC and PeopleShores set out to create job opportunities in five communities across the five boroughs of New York City.
JobsFirstNYC took on the role of co-developing new locations, identifying anchor employers, and establishing talent recruitment pipelines, while fostering crucial relationships with local communities and key stakeholders. Meanwhile, PeopleShores brought to the table its expertise as a Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) and Minority Business Enterprise (MBE), dedicated to bridging the gap between under-resourced communities and technology-oriented careers.

The impact of our partnership is tangible and far-reaching. With the successful launch of a PeopleShores site in Brooklyn in 2022, in collaboration with Morgan Stanley, and another site slated to open in the Bronx in Spring 2024, we are already making significant strides in addressing employment disparities and fostering economic growth in under-resourced communities.
