Overview
The Healthcare Sector Network is a partnership of workforce development agencies, community colleges, and healthcare systems that strengthens collaboration among nonprofits, colleges, and employers to improve skills training, leverage knowledge and resources, and increase access to high-quality, in-demand jobs in the healthcare industry.
The Challenge
The healthcare industry remains an indispensable pillar of New York City’s workforce, with increasing demand at all levels. However, the industry’s need for more qualified workers, improved job quality, and increased investment in advancement persists.
Addressing these challenges through a unified strategy is critical. In particular, fostering collaborative approaches and investing in the development of healthcare workers will establish a more robust healthcare infrastructure that is better equipped to ensure the well-being of its professionals.
The soaring demand for healthcare workers in New York City has catalyzed a renewed focus on innovative workforce development strategies, and we must meet the moment.

The Approach
The Healthcare Sector Network strengthens workforce development capacity and partners with employers to meet labor demand and ensure equitable opportunities within the healthcare sector, thereby increasing New Yorkers’ access to high-wage jobs and advancing their economic mobility.
By enhancing workforce development capacity, collaborating with employers to customize skills training, and influencing policy and investment, the Network aims to foster a thriving healthcare industry with accessible training, fair pay, and good-quality jobs. The Network is committed to:
- Partnering with employers and across the workforce development ecosystem to strengthen healthcare career pathways and create career advancement strategies.
- Complementing one another’s training, services, and curricula and making cross-network referrals.
- Designing and launching a marketing campaign to attract more applicants to the healthcare profession.
- Sharing best practices to connect jobseekers with better-quality jobs and employers.
- Improving the quality of entry-level jobs.
Impact
The Network has completed the investigate, imagine, and incubate phases of JobsFirstNYC’s partnership development process and is currently in the implementation phase, which will impact healthcare career pathways and job quality, ultimately benefiting jobseekers and employers alike.
